Blog Tour: Sophie's Path by Catherine Lanigan

Author: Catherine Lanigan
Publisher: Harlequin Heartwarming
Date of publication: July 2016

Her choice. His consequences.

Nurse Sophie Mattuchi has seen a lot of angry patients in the ER, but no one’s ever rattled her like Jack Carter. He has no right to blame her for his friend’s death. Sophie did everything she could. Didn’t she? Yet his accusations sting, and that sets off all kinds of internal alarms. She’s never cared this much about any man’s opinion of her. But Jack is different. He stirs up feelings. Strong feelings. Guilt. Anger. Attraction. Curiosity. Sympathy. Sophie’s definitely not interested in Jack, but even if she was, he’d never forgive her for the decision she made that night in the hospital. Would he?

The Harlequin Heartwarming series is filled with nice clean stories that will make you feel good after you are done.  Make sure to check out the schedule  below for reviews on the other books in the tour.   After finishing Sophie's Path, I found, while it was a sweet story, I didn't love it. Which is sad because this book is in my main genre.  I enjoy most romances, even light and clean reads.

The one thing that I did enjoy about the story was Sophie.  She was intelligent with a heart of gold.  I liked how she tried to help anyone she could. I loved her determination to make Jack happy and have him come to terms with the accident.  Giving him Frenchie the dog was a sweet touch.  I had to look up a Yorkiepoo to see how little they really are.

So, while I liked Sophie, there was a lot that fell short. I found that didn't do well as a stand alone book.  There were so many characters from earlier books that kept showing up. References to their stories were made, but not enough to give me a gist as to who they were or why their story was important. I kept having the feeling that I was missing parts of the back story. Like I should already know who these characters were.

There were parts of the story that didn't sit well with me. I honestly didn't understand the "rules" that the president of the hospital had about volunteering outside of the hospital.  It was weird and didn't make sense to me. I was also bothered by Sophie being assigned as a sponsor to a drug addict with no counseling training.  In the end, the assumption that she could have done something to prevent his tragedy was ridiculous.  I also didn't really feel the connection between Jack and Sophie. They spent half the book with Jack hating Sophie for something that wasn't even her fault. They barely spent time together, kissed a couple of times and then they are having a HEA.  It was cute, but not enough to make me believe in it.

I haven't' read anything else by this author, so I don't have anything else to compare it to.  There are four other books in the series, so fans of it will probably like this one.
