Blog Tour: Vampire's Thirst by Cynthia Garner

Please welcome author Cynthia Garner who is promoting her latest book, Vampire's Thirst.  Enjoy our interview with her after my thoughts on the book.

Author: Cynthia Garber
Publisher: Forever (Grand Central)
Date of publication: May 6, 2014

After accidentally starting the zombie apocalypse, Kimber Treat now lives with her vampire lover in a compound where humans and vampires live together peacefully. A gifted necromancer who can summon the dead, Kimber is beyond happy when she learns she's pregnant. But as her body changes, Kimber fears that her powers are being influenced by evil, a fact she must keep from everyone, including Duncan . . .

Duncan MacDonnough is preoccupied with his new role as leader of the local vampire conclave, but not so preoccupied that he doesn't notice that Kimber is acting strangely. She's grown distant, and Duncan is convinced she's hiding something. Duncan knows the key to stopping the apocalypse is Kimber's powers, but using them puts her life at risk. With the threat from the Zombie outbreak looming, will Kimber and Duncan learn to trust each other once more to save themselves, their unborn child, and the rest of the world?

My thoughts:

Vampire's Thirst picks up fairly shortly after Vampire's Hunger left off.  I enjoyed this one as much as the first book.  I would advise reading this series in order as you will miss some back story as to how the zombie apocalypse came about.  In this one, Kimber tries to come up with a way to stop the nightmare that has taken over the world.  I won't tell you if she and her friends succeed.

My biggest observation about the book is that I thought it really could have been combined with the fist one. Not a ton happens in the story other than more love scenes. So had the first book been expanded, it really could have been one longer book and not stretched into two. I would have liked to see Natalie 's love life explored more.  I'm not sure if there is going to be a next book in the series, but I hope there is a continuation as there are a number of great characters I would like to know more about.

Kari& Autumn: What inspired you to become a writer?

CG: Believe it or not, it was because someone told me I couldn’t. I started out with non-fiction articles relating to human resources, and went on to fiction novellas and novels from there.

Kari& Autumn: Where do you come up with the ideas for your books?
CG: Everywhere! TV, books, news stories, the ether… They all start with “What if” and go from there.

Kari& Autumn: What exciting projects are waiting in the wings?
CG: I’m plotting book three in the Awakening series, and also working on the outline and developing the characters for a contemporary erotic romantic suspense.

Kari& Autumn: Who is your favorite literary character and why?
CG: Well, this is a hard one. I’m going to go with two characters I was introduced to as a teenager—Sherlock Holmes and Dracula. Both continue to be iconic and have new stories told by different authors. Both also changed their respective genres, in my opinion.

Kari& Autumn: Just for fun, if you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

CG: The cheetah. They may not be as successful of hunters as lions, but they’re lean and fast. And did I mention lean?  ;)
