Interview & Review: Winterbloom by Marissa Dobson

Today, we welcome author, Marissa Dobson, who is promoting her new novella, Winterbloom. Marissa was nice enough to answer some questions for us. Welcome Marissa!

Author: Marissa Dobson
Publisher: Ruby Lioness Press
Date of publication: May 2012

As Chloe Frost focuses on renovating Winterbloom Bed and Breakfast, a blizzard dumps blankets of snow upon the sleepy town of Clearwater. An unexpected guest desperately needs a room after his car breaks down in the storm, but this mystery man seems tortured by his past. Can Chloe help him see through the pain and anger? Can Jordan Sheppard, once a Gunnery Sergeant of the Marines, finally let someone in and show him just what love is?

Winterbloom is the first in a new series from Ruby Lioness Press.  It features characters from the town of Clearwater.  Chloe and Jordan's story is really sweet.  Even though it is short, I felt like I got to know the both of them pretty well.  The attraction is instant yet believable.  Jordan comes to Chloe with major baggage, but her love helps him through.  I really enjoyed this first in the series and I look forward to reading more about the town of Clearwater.

And now a few words with Marissa:

Kari: What inspired you to become a writer?
Marissa: It is what I have always wanted to do. As a young girl I always made up stories to tell my baby sister to put her to sleep at night. As I got older I started writing down my stories.
Kari: Where do you come up with the idea for your books?
Marissa: I’m honestly not sure. They just fight me like a freight train. Many ideas hit me at odd moments, lying in bed, in the shower, driving down the road, etc.
Kari: WinterBloom is the first book in a multi author series. Was it hard to go first and what type of planning did you have to do with the other authors?
Marissa: Yes Winterbloom is the first book in the Clearwater multi author series from Ruby Lioness Press. Not it wasn’t hard to go first because the Clearwater series was my idea. I came up with most of the details for the town, and series. I did have input from some wonderful authors also, most of which will be part of the series.
Kari: What exciting projects are waiting in the wings?
Marissa: I have two different projects in the wings now. The one I am working on mostly is another book in the Clearwater series. This one will be Jennifer’s story, the owner of Express-Ohh (coffee shop). You meet Jennifer briefly in Winterbloom.
The second project is a paranormal romance novel I’m reworking called Tiger Time about tiger shapeshifters. I wrote this a few years ago for National Novel Writing Month and it has always been close to my heart. I would love to see it published.
Kari: Just for fun, if you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
Marissa: A tiger. They are such beautiful creatures.

About the author:

Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, I now reside about an hour from Washington, D.C. I am a lady who likes to keep busy, and am always busy doing something. With two different college degrees, I believe you are never done learning.

Being the first daughter to an avid reader, this gave me the advantage of learning to read at a young age. Since learning to read I have always had my nose in a book. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I started writing down the stories I came up with.

I am blessed with a wonderful supportive husband, Thomas. He is my other half and allows me to stay home and pursue my writing. My writing buddies Max (a cocker spaniel) and Dawne (a beagle mix) are always around to listen to me bounce ideas off them. They might not be able to answer, but they are helpful in their own ways.
